Actual tukeys did not run in the second annual Wilmington Turkey Trot, they probably would have if given the chance. Over 350 people gathered on a cold (44 degrees) Thanksgiving morning to raise money for the local Habitat for Humanity and run the "Wrightsville Beach 2.4 mile loop"
Everybody had a wonderful time, despite the cooler weather, it is a great way to get the holiday started off right, and a for a good cause. The event was sponsered by Dick & Sandy Beals of Realty Executives, with a host of sponsers donating drinks, fruit, donuts, and lots of good will. The final tally of the amount raised looks to exceed $5000, but the turnout for the event was more than encouraging, as well as being a novel way to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.
Sponsers donated prizes for the top 5 finishers, and there was random drawings for 5 at large prizes. We are looking forward to having the third annual Turkey Trot in 2007, and more info may be found at the web site at www.WilmingtonTurkeyTrot.com

I missed my turkey trot (sick) and I'll miss my race this weekend. For anyone looking for a city walk or 5K go to http://www.Active.com just put in your zip code. It's a great way to advertise a 5K, if you would like to sponsor one for a charity, too. They offer online registration.
You can always form your own Running (and limping) Club. :)
