Day 88: Something ghoulish for you lovers of monsters and vampires. Head to the Battleship on the Cape Fear River
for the "Fabulous Fantail Film Festival"." Two movies will be shown and will be sure to put you in the Halloween mood. What a great way to start October....and with the rain behind us and a beautiful day on Friday October 1, 2010, you won't want to miss this event. Watch Dracula and Frankenstein - a double feature.
Tickets will go on sale at 6pm for $5.00. Bring your own camp chairs or blankets, but if you would rather use their chairs, they are provided. What about snacks? Popcorn and drinks will be on sale. For more information you can always call 910-252-5797.

Day 87: Another Festival...Yes and this one is the annual Pleasure Island Seafood, Blues and Jazz Festival October 9-10 at Ft. Day 85: Free Programs at Halyburton Park (located off 17th Street extension) - there are free programs coming up....9/29 12:30 to 4:30pm the NC Wildlife Resources Commission will explore wildlife near the Fort Fisher and Federal Point area. There will be a slide presentation at the park before visiting Fort Fisher. Attendees will seine for fish and other aquatic marine life. (Seine fishing is fishing using a seine. A seine is a large fishing net that hangs vertically in the water by attaching weights along the bottom edge and floats along the top) .There will also be a discussion about mammals and birds found along the river's edge. On 9/30 there will be a workship on Migratory Birds - From 9am to 4pm you will explore the various habitats in the area so you can identiy warblers, raptors, waders, shorebirds and other species. You definitely want to go to this wine festival....Lots of fun, wine tasting, many events, scavenger hunt, Childress Dinner, Brunch....you won't want to miss this. I'll be there with bells on. The Festival starts Friday and ends Sunday....enjoy the peace and serenity of this island retreat...take the ferry...relax and enjoy....Look for me there starting Friday night.

Day 83: Wrightsville Beach Museum of History
- this is a great place to take the kids. Located at 303 W. Salisbury Street in Wrightsville Beach your family will have the opportunity to see what the beach looked like 100 years ago.
There are lots of pictures to look at. Some of the exhibits include a scale model of Wrightsville Beach 1910, examples of what life was like during the early days at the beach.
The museum is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday and this is another thing o do in the Cape Fear Region that is FREE....http://www.wbmuseum.com/

Day 82: Understand the world of sharks: Free at the New Hanover County Library-Main Branch in downtown Wilmington... 9/23/10 The program will explore the world of sharks. The session is for elementary school children and pre-teens.
THose participating in this event will make a shark hat, hear shark stories and watch "The Great White Man Easting Shark." Registration is required, but there is no COST. Call 910-798-6300. Now if you want something for your preschooler....the aquarium (at 900 Loggerhead Road in Ft Fisher) is running a program on the same day for 3 to 5 year olds. Children will hear a story about sharks and create a craft. This program has a fee for children and parents. For details go to ncaquariums.com

Day 81: Downtown Wilmington....one of our families favorite things to do is to visit downtown Wilmington....there doesn't need to be a planned event or you don't need to spend money....We love looking at the boats....the Diligence is back in port...or you can watch the Henrietta cruise by.. you can watch the horses pull the carriage rides..
.or just stroll along the Riverwalk.....if you are there on Saturday, take in the Farmers Market....everything is FREE. There are lots of kid friendly activities, like the Railroad Museum on Nutt Street....we had fun there indeed.

Day 80: Surfing Fans Take Notice - www.WBLASurf.org - Come on out to Wrightsville Beach on Saturday, September 11 at Beach Access 4. The WB Long Board Association is holding its 9th Annual Longboard Classic. All ages, men and woman welcome...fun, sun, surf...cash prize. Day 79: Tennis anyone? Saturday 9/11 is the grand opening for the Althea Gibson Tennis Center at Empie Park.
There will be tournaments and a carnival starting at 8am. The carnival runs 10am to noon and is free. There are also free activities for kids. Registration required. Food vendors attending are Chik-Fil-A, Domino's and Port City Java. Donations encouraged. Visit www.WilmingtonTennis.com to get the details and to register. What a great way to spend the morning!! And what a way to honor one of the "Greats."
