Day 74:  Wilmington's Ghost Walks and Tours......so ...like ghosts, gouls?   Then you want to take the tour in Wilmington, NC....one of the top Ghost Walks around. They say Wilmington is very active with "ghosts". There are 29 active sites and the tour varies each time you go.  The 90 minute journey will be one your won't forget. http://www.hauntedwilmington.com/GhostWalk.htm

Day 73: Lumina Daze: Great event and the "IN" thing to do at Wrightsville Beach, 8/29 5 to 10pm...http://www.wbmuseum.com/LuminaDaze.htm

An evening of fun for the whole family...no matter what your age.  Big Band music and  the shag.. Take some time and look back at the history of your home town.

Day 72:  New Hanover County Arboretum:  FREE - http://www.gardeningnhc.org/

Check out the gardens, partake in the activities, become a master gardener and more.....a wonderful  and extraordinary experience awaits you here at the Arboretum.

Day 71:  The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center; http://www.seaturtlehospital.org/

Open 2-4 pm daily except Wednesdays and Sundays.  Come see the wonderful work these people do....think about becoming a volunteer. Sea Turtles need your help and protection.   You can also adopt a Sea Turtle. Check out the web site to learn all the details.  Topsail has reported 99 nests year to date.   Check out their site.   You can even become a volunteer. The volunteers are always on the lookout for nest, they rescue sea turtles in distress and take part in the most wonderful thing of all.....watching the hatchlings....scamper to the ocean to start their journey.

Day 70: Fort Fisher and Southport Ferry:    Ferry's are still running in NC... take a pleasurable ride with your car or on foot.  http://www.pleasureislandnc.org/ferryschedule.asp

The scenery along the Cape Fear River is lovely.  It's a short ride to Southport where you can take in the antique shops, dine out or just stroll along the streets.   Coming from Southport to Fort Fisher you can take in the aquarium or the Civil War Museum, or just relax at the beach.  It's an economical day and staying off the road and travelling on the river is more fun.

Day 69: This day brings us all to think about supporting a cause....and thinking about others.   While roaming around Wilmington on Monday August 23^rd, you may need a refreshing drink....Lemonade is always a favorite.   From 3 to 5:30pm at 210 Brookshire Lane, 4 children will be operating a lemonade stand to raise money to fight Rett Syndrome.  (www.rettsyndrome.org).  This is a developmental disorder most often seen in girls.  It is caused by a genetic mutation.   Let's help these little entrepreneurs in helping them to raise money for the foundation.    Perhaps, they will be out there every year, so be sure to include them in your list of things to do in Wilmington.   It is for a good cause. Day 68 Fort Fisher Recreation Center  - located at 1000 Loggerhead Road, Kure Beach, NC 28449.  The season will soon be winding down so don't forget to visit the ocean shore and this recreation area....Lots to do, swim, fish, 4 wheel it, search the beach for t reassures or simply sit back and enjoy the wildlife around you.   This is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area and there is a lotsto do.  There are salt marshes, tidal creeks and mud flats for you to explore.  Be sure to check out their web site to know what is going on http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/fofi/main.php

Day 67: Stadium Batting Cages...want to work on your batting skills...are you a frustrated baseball or softball player?....or do you just want to have some fun? .....go to 5570 Oleander drive and try out your skill.   Fun for the whole family. Inexpensive fun for all.  One Tree Hill filmed here recently....walk in the footsteps of your favorite stars and let us know how you are "hitting them."

Day 66: Bellamy Mansion  - check out www.BellamyMansion.org....  and while you are at it ---check out the live outdoor jazz entertainment schedule. The Bellamy Mansion and Cape Fear Jazz Society have collaborated to bring you  this event.  They schedule their events on Fridays at 6pm to 8pm you will see a great show. The next one is September 10 so market your calendar.  Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome. Beverages and gourmet snacks are available.   There is an admission price.    Introduce your family to the wonderful world of jazz...sit back and ENJOY. I know I will.

Now don't pass up the opportunity to visit the Mansion.  The mansion is available for tours, to rent out for events.   Visit their web site...explore the history of this landmark.  Better yet...there are volunteer opportunities.

Day 65 Meteor Shower  - FREE We are now in late summer .. compliments of the UNIVERSE... Go out in your backyard and enjoy the show...bring a lawn chair or sleeping bag.   Perseid Meteor  will reach peak aug.12 and 13. You don't  need a telescope and can see it with the naked eye. Best time to view -after 12pm & before the sun rises. The meteors will shoot all over the sky.what a view and for FREE.. EnjoyI know I will.
