Day 58:  Get Prepared for the Pirates - they are landing July 10th in Southport: Once again the pirates will be invading Southport .  The North Carolina Maritime Museum will be sponsoring this event once again at Franklin Square Park from 10am to 2pm. And don't fear mates, if you miss them they will be landing in Wilmington in October (more to come on that another day). This is part of the free second Saturday programs offered at historic sites across NC.  While you are there visit the museum which is open from 9am to 5pm.  www. Ncmaritimemuseum.org.

Join in the fun. Wear a costume, listen to the storytelling, and look at artwork all centered around ...what else..."pirates."   This event is FREE....just one more thing to do in the Cape Fear Region.

Day 57: Free Fishing Day in North Carolina: http://www.ncwildlife.org/  Take advantage of this on July 4th, 2010 and see if you like to fish. You can fish without a license in  all public waters including the along the coast.  Surf fishing is fun.....and fishing off the banks of Snows Cut in our area brings some nice catch.  July 4th is the day every year that the General Assembly has designated as the day to promote fishing. They started this in 1994.  The Wildlife Resources Commission even stocks some fishing sites across the state.    Check out their website to find free fishing access areas......and good luck.. Hope you bring home the catch of the day....have fun....and maybe bring home some dinner.   Remember, though, all other regulations on size, daily limits, bait and tackle still apply.
