365 Things to Do in Greater Wilmington and the Cape Fear Region

Day 7:  Explore one of the nicest NC Aquariums at Fort Fisher. http://www.ncaquariums.com/fort-fisher Fort Fisher is just south of Kure Beach, NC.  There are so many wonderful things to explore. The aquarium can be rented out for various functions.  It is a relaxing time for the whole family and there are lots of hands on experiences, you can watch the divers and have a conversation with them, or just explore.  Catch a snack outside if there is time and don't forget to visit the gift shop.  You will want to check  out the  programs offered for outdoor exploration.  http://www.ncaquariums.com/fort-fisher/programs/outdoor-exploration  We took the surf fishing class with our family.  What an entertaining time.  In class, the instructor shows you how to tie your hook on the line and you practice knot tying, you learn how to use the casting net to catch your own bait and you actually have real, live hands-on practice on the beach.  You must, however, promise, to return your catch to the sea.

I think we are due for a refresher course though. So far, when Sandy fishes on the beach or off the pier she only seems to catch Dick's line.   Sandy was, however, the star of the class with the fishing line.   Her son Greg was so impressed, he bought her a casting net for one of her birthday's......Time to practice again, take the grandchildren and maybe catch something worthwhile.....like DINNER!!.

365 Things To Do in Greater Wilmington, NC and the Cape Fear Region

Day 6:   South Facing Beaches in the Cape Fear Region - Brunswick, NC.....http://www.ncbeaches.com/BrunswickBeaches/

We all know most beaches face east or west....we are somewhat different in the Greater Wilmington and Cape Fear Region.   Check out the webcam at Sunset Beach to  see the most updated views and seashells found.  http://www.sunsetbeachncwebcam.com/

We are blessed with south facing beaches in Brunswick County.  So what's the big deal?   You can sit on the beach, look over your left shoulder and see the sunrise.  Later on in the day in the same spot, look to the right and watch our beautiful sunsets....breathtaking from both angles....What else you say?   Shells!!!!!!    I must say....the south facing beaches have the best shelling experience. Every time sandy's sister spends time at her vacation  home in Shallotte, she finds conch shells, sand dollars, sharks teeth.  Each visit is an experience. If you put your ear up to the shell, you hear the ocean....it's true.  There was a woman she chatted with during Easter who had 7 conch shells lined up. She was taking them home to her grandchildren....you must be brave, look for the dips in the ocean floor, but you don't have to go out far, but you must be willing to dive in and come up with all those TREASURE's.

 Signing off from Wilmington NC,

365 Things To Do in Greater Wilmington, NC and the Cape Fear Region

Day 5:   Looking for a great golf course?

Let us recommend one to you.  While taking your journey through Wilmington, you will definitely want to add this to the list of 365 things to do.  One of the areas nicest golf courses can be found at The Cape at Masonboro.....  http://www.masonborocountryclub.com. The course has scenic woods, marsh lands and island greens. There are twenty four lakes and ponds on this course....when we golf...Sandy sees water and the ball GOES IN.... We love this course because of its natural beauty, but it is a challenge with the water...bring lots of balls.   This is a par 72, 18 hole course in New Hanover County. Wilmington is on the North Carolina Coast with access to the river, the sea and the Intracoastal Waterway. This course has recently been redesigned and is spectacular. There is a seven acre practice range, a short-game area and a practice putting green.  So have a great time ........stay on your toes.....have a great game........FORE!!

365 Things To Do in Greater Wilmington, NC and the Cape Fear Region

Day 4:  Well  - technical difficulties all day with roadrunner.   If you ever miss our adventures here, you can always check our FAN PAGE out on FACEBOOK "365 Things to Do in Greater Wilmington, NC and the Cape Fear Region" ---------

Take the family to Empie Park.  Directions: Head West on Market Street, left on Covil Avenue, left on Park, entrance is on the left, or go south on College Road, right on Oleander Drive, right on Independence, right on Park Avenue, entrance is on the left.

3300 Park Ave., Wilmington, NC, 28403-5672

There is actually 33 acres here.....beauty, trees and shade.  Empie Park is located on Park Avenue. There are covered pavilions that you can rent for a family event. How much fun to barbeque... with the family. My granddaughter had her birthday party there. What a great time everyone had. . The tennis courts are always busy so you may need to reserve ahead.. Best of all is they have 2 acre doggie park so you don't need to leave your 4 legged friends at home. Just remember to SCOOP!!! There is a horse shoe and bocce ball area. Now I've watched that bocci ball game since I was a kid and really no one ever told me the purpose of the game. Interesting game though. A bunch of adults throwing balls of different colors....and oh, I think I saw a little white one. They actually have leagues around here that seem pretty organized. I have seen that game played at the beach in Freemans Park and it is wild. Those beach goers hrow those balls anywhere. I feel a little safer at Empie, but someone, please explain the game to me!! Wonder if the hubby might like that for Father's day?

365 Things To Do in Greater Wilmington, NC and the Cape Fear Region

Day 3:

Enjoy the many creeks we have in the Great Wilmington area.  Take a peaceful canoe or kayak ride and experience nature at Pages Creek, Whiskey Creek, Howe or Hewletts Creek.  Our creeks our 'tidal' creeks....meaning you must check the tide tables because you may make your way out to the Intracoastal Waterway via way of one of our creeks....but because the creeks are tidal, you may not be able to get back in because they can go 'down to mud' with very little water....so be careful....plan your trip.   Me, I am a watcher on this one, but I love to take in the beauty of the creeks and marshes and just check out the wild life.  I'll leave all this fun to the younger more daring types and I'll wait for you by shore for now until I get my ‘creek' legs.
